Bureau identified remains of 8 soldiers fallen in the war of Abkhazia

LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau, with the involvement of Forensic Medical Examination and Biology Departments, has identified remains of 8 persons fallen heroically in fights for territorial integrity in Abkhazia. Among these were 5 soldiers and 3 civilians. Georgian soldiers will be buried with military honour at Dighomi Brothers' Cemetery on 9 December 2021. Pavle Giorgadze, Deputy Head of the Bureau, Tea Akhvlediani, State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, and representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation attended the ceremony of handing over the remains of fallen heroes to the family members. The process of identifying the remains of the heroes, with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross, has been underway since 2014 and continues to this day.

LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau has become a member of the International Valuations Standards Council (IVSC), the most authoritative organization in the field of valuation. Together with the National Forensic Bureau, the Council brings together more than 170 member institutions from 137 countries worldwide, including such reputable organizations as Earnst and Young, Bloomberg, Deloitte, and others. The purpose of the International Valuations Standards Council (IVSC) is to develop and establish international valuation standards and protect the interests of market participants through the development of valuation profession. The Council is also committed to the development of high quality, transparent practical international valuation standards in accordance with public interest.

Bureau Met with GREVIO Independent Expert Group

Vakhtang Kargareteli, First Deputy Head of LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau, met with representatives of the GREVIO Independent Expert Group responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence. During the meeting, the parties discussed the rules and procedures guiding the Bureau in performing forensic medical and psychiatric examinations of women victims of violence. The members of the monitoring team also got acquainted with the procedures of examining women, especially conducting examination of such vulnerable groups as women with disabilities, members of ethnic minorities, migrant women and others.

Bureau Participates in International Online Conference

Asmat Matushevskaya, an expert of the Video, Phonoscopic and Habitoscopic Examination Unit of LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau, participated in an international online conference on phonoscopic examination. At the workshop current issues in the field of phonoscopy were discussed, which are related to the development of forensics and its contemporary requirements. Recently, there has been a growing demand for determining the authenticity and speaker verification in digital recordings. New research methods and forensic programs are being actively introduced and developed along with the training of experts. Bureau experts are constantly involved in keeping abreast of news and sharing experience with ENFSI member institutions.
