Success of the Forensic Oil Laboratory

In January 2015, Forensic Oil Laboratory of the LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau successfully passed international qualification test attested by the certificate awarded by Institute of Interlaboratory Studies (IIS) of Netherlands. 


The Netherlands Institute of Interlaboratory Studies (IIS) is an independent organization that conducts different types of interlaboratory tests (qualification tests, cross checking, joint control) for analytical laboratories of more than 100 participating countries.

Bureau expresses its condolences to families of soldiers fallen in Babushera and Gumista

LEPL - Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau expresses its condolences to families of soldiers fallen in Babushera and Gumista, who heroically fought for the territorial integrity of Georgia, and honors their memory. 

The process of identification of Georgian heroes reburied from Babushera and Gumista began in September, 2013 with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
DNA experts of the National Forensics Bureau conducted genetic analysis of up to 1500 relatives of the missing soldiers, out of which 230 genetic profiles have been processed. 

Experts of the Bureau attended the FBI "CODIS" data-base conference

Experts from the LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau participated in the CODIS Customer Conference which was held on November 17-19 in the US, Oklahoma, Oklahoma. Over 500 participants from around the world attended the conference. The participants shared experience of working with the data-base.

Deputy Head of Biological Forensics Department Tamar Giorkhelidze and expert Ia Ediberidze represented the Bureau at the Conference.
"CODIS" (Combined DNA Index System) is a DNA data-base system developed by FBI in 1994. It is a computer system that collects DNA data and allows to exchange information between all accredited DNA laboratories both, in and outside the country. 

US Investigative Bureau trains Forensic Medicine Department

On November 19, 2014, chief expert of the US Investigative Bureau, Kris Sperry delivered a training for the Forensic Medicine Department of the LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau. The training was organized by the US Embassy of Georgia (INL Program).  Interns and residents of the Tbilisi State Medical School participated in the training together with the Bureau experts.
