Regarding the case of the death of a young nurse Megi Bakradze, according to media reports, the forensic medical report should be made public today, LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau has issued a statement due to high public interest. LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau is still conducting forensic examination on the case of the deceased nurse. The procedure has not been completed. Therefore, the examination report is not ready at the moment. Experts of LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau do their best to provide accurate and valid answers to the questions within their competence. LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau expresses sadness on the tragic passing of Megi Bakradze and conveys sincerest condolences to the deceased family.

Representatives of International Committee of Red Cross visited Bureau

Mamuka Jangulashvili, Head of LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau, hosted Daniel Mac Sweeney, Envoy on Missing Persons in the Caucasus, at the International Committee of the Red Cross and Severin Shapaz, Head of International Committee of the Red Cross Delegates to Georgia. The visit was of introductory nature and focused on the long-term cooperation between the Bureau and ICRC, within which the joint effort should be mentioned in the process of identifying persons gone missing during the armed conflicts of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali. Since 2014, with joint efforts of Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau, The Office of the State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the remains of 200 soldiers fallen in the conflicts in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali have been identified and handed over to their families. At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed readiness for active and fruitful cooperation in the future.

Bureau’s Success in Proficiency Testing

Food, Tobacco, Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Examination Unit at the Department of Forensic Toxicology and Narcology at LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau, participated in the annual proficiency testing. The testing was organized by the ENFSI Hair and Textile Group. During the test, experts of Food, Tobacco, Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Examination Unit 1) Identified textile fiber composition; 2) Collected microparticles of foreign fibers from different objects; 3) Determined types of microparticles of foreign fibers present at various objects; 4) Determined traces and quantitative indicator of microparticles of intersecting fibers at different objects. Forty-six leading laboratories around the world participated in the proficiency testing. The results were statistically processed by The ENFSI Textile and Hair Group and the final report was submitted. In the mentioned test, LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau of the Chemical-Narcological Expertise Department of the Materials, Materials, Products and Plants Examination Division showed best results of each parameter, as well as the evaluation and interpretation of the data. With this outcome, the Bureau confirmed the high accuracy and trustworthiness of its results once again.

National Forensic Bureau has New Head

LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau has a new head. Mamuka Jangulashvili took over the position of head of Bureau by order of the Prime Minister of 10 March, 2021. From 2015 – till present Mamuka Jangulashvili Headed the Customs Department of the Revenue Service. Before he held the position of Head of the Tax Monitoring Department of the Revenue Service. He has many years of experience working onvarious positions in the Investigation Service and Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance. Mamuka Jangulashvili is a lawyer by profession. He is a graduate of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
