Ketevan Kartvelishvili, Forensic Biologist at the Department of Forensic Biology of LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau presented a poster-presentation „The impact of maternal inherited thrombophilia on intra uterine growth restriction“ (co-authors Nino Kochiashvili, Nino Pirtskhelani, Levan Makhaldiani) at the international conference European Human Genetics Virtual Conference (ESHG 2020.2) held in Berlin, Germany  on 6-9 June 2020.

The poster presentation included the data on mutations causing hereditary thrombophilia, which have been collected over the years by the Bureau’s medical genetics laboratory through grant-scientific or forensic research activities.

Along with Georgia, 4,000 representatives of the medical genetics from various countries attended the conference, and about 240 presentations were delivered.  The conference also allowed for the participation in virtual exhibitions with 160 participating companies, attend 18 workshops and 14 educational sessions online. (It was also possible, to view the virtual exhibitions presented by 160 companies, attend 18 workshops and 14 educational sessions online).

At the conference, the basic principles of genetic disease management, psycho-social aspects of genetics, issues of tumor and cell genetics, prenatal diagnosis, metabolic and mitochondrial diseases, cardiovascular and hematological genetics, new technologies and approaches and many other issues were discussed at the conference. Along with forensic activities, National Forensic Bureau is actively involved and continues successful participation in scientific activities in the international arena.
