International Training for DNA Experts

On 29th-30th of October, 2018, the training for DNA experts on theoretical and practical innovations in DNA research was held in laboratory of forensic biology department.

Official representatives of one of the leading companies in the world, QIAGEN Mirilla Perucho and Paul Redhead provided training to experts of Bureau in the field of human DNA Identification and Forensic examination Research.
During the course of practical demonstration, the company representatives presented the latest reagent kits that have been tested in the leading laboratories across the world, which enables effective DNA analysis of the quantitative and qualitative assessment obtained from the inhibited and degraded materials. Recently implemented improved kits for genetic identification of human biological material and the software systems developed for analysis of the individual research stages were one of the issues of the discussion. 

Participation of DNA Experts in the 5th International Conference on Oncology

On October 26, 2018, Head of Forensic Biology Department of LEPL - Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau Nino Kochiashvili and an expert of the above mentioned department, Nino Phirtskhelani participated at the 5th International Conference on Oncology, organized by Georgian Cancer Research Group (GCSG), along with leading British scientist group of medical genetic and cancer epidemiologists, the event was held in Hotel Radisson Blue Iveria. Experts presented report regarding the detection of BRCA mutations in Georgian patients. The existence of BRCA gene mutations may cause high risk of various forms of inherited breast cancer. 

Kyrgyz delegation visited the Bureau

On July 17, 2018, Head of LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau Giorgi Tvauri hosted Kyrgyz government and parliament members.

The guests visited Chemical-narcological, criminalistics and biology (DNA) examination laboratories equipped with   advanced technologies and highly qualified experts employed. They were acquainted   in details with the specification of the functioning of the bureau, implemented innovations and modern methods of expertize.
Within the frames of the visit they talked about ongoing projects and future cooperation plans.

A new Mitochondrial DNA Laboratory of the Bureau

On May 19, 2014, LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau inaugurated a new Mitochondrial DNA Laboratory.

Head of the Bureau, Giorgi Tvauri, Minister of Justice, Tea Tsulikiani, Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Regions and Refugees, Davit Darakhvelidze and other representatives of the government, as well as, the representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office and US Embassy attended the opening ceremony. 
Forensic DNA examination is one of the leading fields of the National Forensics Bureau and its laboratory is furnished with the latest equipments.
