On December 1, 2016, Head of the Forensic Biology Department, Nino Kochiashvili, participated in the event organized by Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University. The event aimed at supporting development of bio-science and bio-technology fields, deepening cooperation between the University and the Industry, and implementing innovative educational programmes to train highly qualified specialists, including in the directions of food, healthcare, environment and agro-bio-technologies. 

Bureau Achieves Success in International Testing

In July 2016, Unit of Food and Tobacco Products, Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Examination of Forensic Chemical-Narcology department of the LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau participated in the qualification test organized within the framework of the EU project in cooperation with the Accreditation Center. 

12 Labs in total took the test, nine out of which were from Georgia and three from the Slovak Republic. The test assigned defining Physical-chemical substance in an unidentified milk powder. 

November 4 – Forensics Day

On November 4, 2016 LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau marked the Forensics Day. Within the framework of the Forensics Day, that has been turned into an annual tradition, the Bureau awards successful experts. 

More than 500 varieties of examinations, accessible tariffs, modern equipment, qualified staff and what’s most important, compliance with International Standard – these are the key principles rooted in the work of the Bureau.  

The Bureau has identified bodies of 17 militaries deceased on the territory of Abkhazia

LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau has identified 17 bodies of militaries fighting for the territorial integrity of Georgia and heroically deceased in Abkhazia. The burial ceremony shall be conducted on 15th of September at the Brotherhood cemetery. 

The identification process has been launched since September 2013 with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
DNA experts of the National Forensic Bureau retrieved biological samples of up to 2000 family members of missing soldiers, 600 of which have been already analyzed. 230 genetic portfolios have been processed by financial support of the Forensic Bureau. Another 200 samples are to be finalized by the end of the year.
