Director of the US Department of State (INL) visited the Bureau

On April 22, 2015, Director of the US Department of States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs  Office of Europe and Asia (INL/EA), Leslie Wiger visited LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau for the first time. Head of the National Forensic Bureau, Giorgi Tvauri, introduced the novelties and achievements of the Bureau and thanked the US representative for the significant and invaluable contribution that INL has invested in the development of the Bureau.   Within the framework of the meeting, the sides discussed ongoing projects and future of cooperation.


The first visit of ENFSI Governing Council to Georgia

On April 16, 2015, Governing Council of the European Network of Forensic Institutions (ENFSI) paid its first visit to Georgia. LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau welcomed the Council composed of the heads of the Forensic Institutions of Germany, Great Britain, France, Belgium, Slovakia and Estonia.


ENFSI is the most authoritative international organization in the forensic field and has been recognized as a monopolist of the field by the European Union since 2009. 62 forensic institutions of 35 European countries are members of ENFSI network. Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau became its full-fledged member in 2011.

Another success of DNA laboratory

DNA laboratory – accredited by ISO17025- of the Department of Forensic Biology of the LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau passed two international qualification tests (external audit) at the end of 2014: origins of human biomass, DNA outputs and genotyping.


The tests were organized by DNA Profiling Group of the German Forensics Institute (GEDNAP) established in 1980. Today the Institute is known as the German DNA Profile Group and is authorized by the European Network of Forensic Institutions - ENFSI and periodically evaluates the quality of DNA laboratories.

Another success of the chemical-toxicology laboratory

Forensic Chemical-Toxicology Unit of the Forensic Chemical-Narcotics Department of the LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau annually participates in the qualification tests organized by European Network of Forensic Science Institutions (ENFSI) and the the United Nations Organization for Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and consistently maintains its leading position.


In December 2014, forensic experts of the Bureau received four samples provided by the Drugs Working Group of the European Network of Forensic Science Institutions (ENFSI) for annual qualification test. 62 Laboratories of the European countries participated in this test.
