Lawyer and Engineer –Technologist by proffession, Merab Murgulia graduated from Georgian Institute of Subtropical Agriculture with a degree in Engineering Technology and from History-Law Faculty of the Sokhumi Branch of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University with a degree in Law. He started his career in 1990 as the director of the international company "Dioscuria".
In 1992-1993 he continued his career in the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, where he was a military personnel of the 23rd Brigade of the 2nd Army Corps. In 1996-2000 he worked as the Senior Inspector of Special Cases of the Operational Department of the Tax Service of the Ministry of Finance, in 2002-2003 as the Senior Inspector of the Special Legion of the Ministry of Revenue of Georgia.
From 2003 he worked in the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, where until 2010 he held various positions, namly, Chief Operative Officer of the Eastern Division of the Tax Department, Chief Operative Officer of Tbilisi first division of Operative Department of Financial Police, Deputy Head of Tbilisi First Division of Operative Department of Financial Police, Deputy Head of the First Division of (Kvemo Kartli) Operational Department of Financial Police. Deputy Head of Division of Important Cases of Investigative Department of Financial Police, Deputy Head of Main Division of Important Cases of Investigative Department of Revenue Service, Deputy Head of main Division of Important Cases of the Investigation Department of Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
In 2011-2012 he was Head of the Maanagement Group of the franchising network of "Lukoil Georgia" Ltd. From 2012 he continued his activity as a Deputy Head of the Investigation Department of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia and in 2013 initially he was the Head of Administration and later became Head of the Economic Department of Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
Since November 2013 he continued his career as a Head of the Economic Department - Head of the primary structural unit of Chief Prosecutor's Office of Georgia until May 2021.
From June 2, 2021, Merab Murgulia was appointed as a Deputy Head of LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau of Georgia.
