LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau, with the involvement of Forensic Medical Examination and Biology Departments, has identified remains of 8 persons fallen heroically in fights for territorial integrity in Abkhazia. Among these were 5 soldiers and 3 civilians.

Georgian soldiers will be buried with military honour at Dighomi Brothers' Cemetery on 9 December 2021.

Pavle Giorgadze, Deputy Head of the Bureau, Tea Akhvlediani, State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, and representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation attended the ceremony of handing over the remains of fallen heroes to the family members.

The process of identifying the remains of the heroes, with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross, has been underway since 2014 and continues to this day.

Over these years, the remains of 219 soldiers fallen in the conflicts of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali have been identified and handed over to the family members.

With the cooperation of LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau, the Office of the State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRS) and the Bureau, the identification process continues and the Bureau will remain actively involved in the process until its completion.

LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau expresses condolences to the families of deceased soldiers and honors the memory of the fallen heroes.
