Vakhtang Kargareteli, deputy Head of LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau, and other representatives of the Bureau, hosted Sara Rupert, Director of U.S. State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Tbilisi and Larry Fokas, INL Police Adviser.

In the course of the meeting, the participants discussed the renewal of the preparation for obtaining accreditation by the Forensic Medical Examination Department of the Bureau, as a result of which the Forensic Medical Examination Department shall be accredited by National Association of Medical Examiners – NAME, USA.

National Forensic Bureau has been actively collaborating with the INL over the years, which has made a significant contribution to the development of the Bureau and providing forensic activities in accordance with international standards. Specifically, with the financial support of the INL Forensic Medical Examination and DNA laboratories were renovated and equipped. With INL support, Bureau’s medical experts have undergone training at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

The INL has facilitated the implementation of quality management system for forensic activities at the Bureau, based on which the Bureau has obtained accreditation in accordance with the requirements of the international standard ISO 17025.
