LEPL - Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau expresses its condolences to families of soldiers fallen in Babushera and Gumista, who heroically fought for the territorial integrity of Georgia, and honors their memory. The process of identification of Georgian heroes reburied from Babushera and Gumista began in September, 2013 with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
DNA experts of the National Forensics Bureau conducted genetic analysis of up to 1500 relatives of the missing soldiers, out of which 230 genetic profiles have been processed.
The National Forensics Bureau has covered all financial costs of the project.
Genetic profiles processed in Georgia were further compared with samples of exhumed bodies at the DNA laboratory of the Zagreb University. Four bodies are identified at the given stage. The funeral ceremony will be held today.
The identification process of soldiers fallen in Babushera and Guatemala continues. National Forensics Bureau will be further actively engaged in the process.
