ImageForensic Video, Phonoscopic and Habitoscopic Examination Unit of the LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau operates in three basic directions:
1. Forensic Video Examination
2. Forensic Habitoscopic Examination
3. Forensic Phonoscopic Examination
Examination of video images includes the examination of video images, as well as examination of individuals and objects depicted on the video. The video examination also means identifying editing on the video and a recording device, identification of persons depicted on the image, vehicle models and plate numbers and other objects or/and subjects.
Such studies are conducted by utilizing latest multimedia research equipment - dTective, which is produced by Ocean Systems and operates by up to date software:
Avid Media Composer makes it possible to examine video images recorded at night, separate/identify details of static objects, such as car plate numbers; stabilize the video recording; or  expend duplicated video recording.
Overall, the system is designed to improve the image quality of the video and extract a video material from any equipment.
Avid Nitris DX, provides an opportunity to work on video image in HD
Avid Media Composer, provides an opportunity to reproduce photos based on the video without suppressing the file
Forensic Habitoscopic Examination improves a photo quality and makes it possible to identify people on the photo. For this examination too, the experts utilize dTective, which is also designed for photo examinations.
Forensic Phonoscopic Examination examines audio and acoustic files; it is used to characterize and identify types of speech (reading or verbal), its duration, gender and quantity of speakers, as well as identify signs of audio editing and method of recording.
The laboratory is equipped with Speech Criminalistic Research Complex "IKAR-LAB II +", SIS v.7.01.433 (Speech Technology Center) that contains all the software required for the above-listed research.
National Forensics Bureau is the only institution which offers a complex examination of audio-linguistic and technical methods based on the ACU-Expert and LVIS software (including the formant comparison method regardless of the language). The Bureau offers a service of identifying authenticity of the speech recording;   identify traces of coding and editing in MP3 format of audio files, and tracking the changes in the phonogram signal parameters performed by specialized software for editing.
The latest technological equipment and highly qualified experts of the Bureau are the guarantee of accurate examination results.
