ImageIn March of 2014, the medical journal "Georgian Medical News" published two scientific articles: "The impact of hereditary thrombophilia in the population of Georgia, the risk of repeated venous thromboembolism" and "inherited thrombophilia and the risk of developing proximal and diastolic deep vein thrombosis in the population of Georgia" which were co-authored by the Head of the Forensic Biology Department, Nino Kochiashvili and experts Nino Phirtskhelani, also a grant manager, and Ketevan Kartvelishvili.
Both articles reflect results of DNA researches conducted at the Bureau and implemented within the framework of the scientific grants of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation.
Scientific Grant - "inherited thrombophilia molecular-genetic aspects and their role in the developing thrombosis and pregnancy pathology in the population of Georgia”, which examined 240 persons in the period of 2012-2014, was implemented in the Forensics Medicine Department, on the base of Medical DNA Laboratory of the LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau.
According to the research results, the hereditary thrombophilia plays an important role in the development of pathogenic and pregnant pathologies in the population of Georgia, which is highly important for early diagnosis, prevention of disease development and adequate treatment.
