American experts at the Department of Forensic Medicine

On May 19, 2015 Head of the LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau Giorgi Tvauri hosted Heads of US Law enforcement and Forensic agencies, State Georgia, the representatives of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) of the 

US Embassy of Georgia at the Department of Forensic Medicine.

Head of the Bureau invited his American colleagues to the induction tour around the Bureau and informed the guests about the modern methodologies applied in the Bureau. 

ENFSI DNA Working Group Meeting

In April-May 2015, Head of the Forensic Biology Department of Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau, Nino Kochiashvili was invited to CODIS (DNA-Database) Conference and ENFSI DNA working group meeting in Denmark. ENFSI - European Network of Forensic Science Institutions monitors laboratories of its member forensic institutions from various countries of Europe.


Forensic DNA Department of the Medical Faculty of the Copenhagen University hosted the meeting this year.

​On April 27-29, 2015, the National Forensics Bureau welcomed Alexander Gentosh, representative of the world leading Biotechnological company "Thermo Fisher Scientific”, which provides the Bureau with equipment for genetic studies and reactive supplies.  The visit of Mr. Gentosh implied introduction of the new three DNA study sets developed by the company, including but not limited to: "Quantifiler®Trio"; "GlobalFilerTM" and "Yfiler®Plus". "Quantifiler®Trio" is a highly sensitive set to estimate general human and male DNA with improved indicators for qualitative and quantitative estimates. The set differs from the previous ones by advanced precision and sensitivity, which enables experts to identify even least human bio material in a study sample. 


Director of the US Department of State (INL) visited the Bureau

On April 22, 2015, Director of the US Department of States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs  Office of Europe and Asia (INL/EA), Leslie Wiger visited LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau for the first time. Head of the National Forensic Bureau, Giorgi Tvauri, introduced the novelties and achievements of the Bureau and thanked the US representative for the significant and invaluable contribution that INL has invested in the development of the Bureau.   Within the framework of the meeting, the sides discussed ongoing projects and future of cooperation.
