Head of the Bureau paid a working visit to Istanbul

On August 14, 2015, Giorgi Tvauri, Head of the LEPL, Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau and the First Deputy Head of the Bureau, Vakhtang Kargareteli, visited Istanbul, Turkey. The visit aimed at learning about the principles of the Turkish Forensic Medicine Council, as well as, methods and standards applied in Turkey. 

Representatives of the Bureau met with the General Director of the Forensic Medicine Council of Turkey, Ialcin Buiuk. The sides discussed plans for future cooperation between the LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau and the Forensic Medicine Council of Turkey. 

The Bureau identified bodies of 12 soldiers

LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau identified bodies of 12 soldiers deceased in Babushera for the territorial integrity of Georgia. 

Identification process of the reburied heroes was launched in 2013 with support of the International Committee of the Red Cross. 
DNA profiles developed in Georgia were further submitted to the DNA laboratory of the Zagreb University, wherein the DNA samples were compared with the DNA profiles of the exhumed bodies. 
12 bodies are currently identified. the funeral ceremony is planned on August 8 at the Brotherhood Cemetery.

On July 31, 2015, Janel Kuroda, Officer of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, Office of Europe and Asia paid a visit to the LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau and held a meeting with the Deputy Head of the Bureau, Giorgi Murvanidze. 

Within the framework of the meeting, the sides discussed successful projects implemented by the Bureau in cooperation with INL. 
Deputy Head of the Bureau offered a tour in the modernly equipped laboratories and introduced up to date methodologies applied in the Bureau.

PH- International invited Nino Kikabidze, Head of the Forensic Medicine Department of the LEPL Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau and Levan Simonishvili, Deputy Head of Forensic Criminalistics Department to participate in the informal education project.  


The project aimed at raising awareness on the basic social values and public order among adolescents and foster project on prevention of juvenile crimes via innovative methods. High School students of 9th, 10th and 11th grades of 3 schools of Tbilisi participated in the meeting.
